6 years ago I joined this system by buying the NZ Master rights for CleanTastic Commercial Cleaning (part of The Franchise Shop group of Franchises). At this stage all the good areas were gone in Australia in this system and therefore I saw NZ as a great opportunity. Over the following 5 years we sold over 150 franchises in NZ and build a turnover in excess of $4m. In that period the value of the business increased by 600%
During this period I also developed a Master area in Hamilton NZ – this is a rural centre with a population just over 100,000. In the 18 months I ran the area we appointed 23 franchisees and built the 3rd biggest cleaning company in the area. This area originally would have sold to a Master Franchisee as an undeveloped area for $65,000. At the end of the 18 months it was worth in excess of $400,000.
During this period I worked with Stu Beadle to develop the Select franchise. We had identified that there was a significant opportunity for growth in home cleaning & lawn mowing. The systems already developed in CleanTastic were easily adapted and I then proceeded to trial the system by developing an area myself. Having successfully done this in both home cleaning and lawn mowing I then carried on appointing Master Franchisees and developing the resources for the Select system.
In 2007 we developed a waterless chemical for the use in vehicle grooming and then proceeded to apply the Select franchise systems thus building the next brand – SelectValet. This system has an exciting future as it combines the Select systems with an environmentally friendly chemical & technique for vehicle grooming. This has produced a service that is very attractive to clients and a allows franchisees to earn above average incomes.

Joined the SelectCleaning System as Auckland Master Franchisee in 2003 when there were 5 franchisees operating in the area. Over the next 32 months appointed a further 25 franchisees and built a royalty income of over $7,000 per month. Sold the area at this stage at a 200% increase in the value of the area.

Franchisee & Master Franchisee
“Select has been a great way for me to learn how to do business in New Zealand. I started as a SelectCleaning Franchisee in Auckland. After 18 months of doing this I sold my business and joined SelectCleaning in Waikato as the Master Franchisee. This was very successful and I learned how to run an area as a Master Franchisee. After Waikato I have gone on to start and develop SelectCleaning in Wellington and Christchurch. I have found that with the Select system I have been able to start small and as my knowledge and experience grew I have been able to move to a bigger business.”

SelectCleaning Master Franchisee
“I originally worked as a salesman within the CleanTastic Sydney business but quickly realised that if I really wanted to make good money out of this business I needed to be a Master Franchisee so I purchased the CleanTastic rights for Wollongong. This was a difficult area to run as I was not living in the area so as soon as the opportunity came to start SelectCleaning in the area I jumped. I have spent spent some time establishing the business in Sydney while still running Wollongong and now, with four franchisees on board and Wollongong sold I feel I am perfectly balanced for growth. I have all the supplier relationships in place, have work and franchise leads built to healthy levels and understand the market well. The system is very easy to apply and the support from the Franchisor is 1st class.”

SelectCleaning Franchisees
"We have found SelectCleaning has given us a great opportunity to not only make great money but also learn how business is done in New Zealand. As new migrants from Fiji we have been able to start our own business very quickly and with no worries."

SelectValet Master Franchisee
“Within 1 month of starting my business I was earning over $6000 monthly on my own. I have now gone on to appoint another 4 franchisees in my area and intend on appointing even more next year. This was a safe way for me to start my own business – having never been in business before I was in full control of my business from day one. I started doing the work myself and as I developed enough work I appointed a franchisee. To date I have found that getting work is no problem and as long as I can get good franchisees we will grow a great business.” |
